King Me: “MADE OF”
Started in 2016, King Me is ninamdot’s ongoing photographic series of Black men and boys wearing crowns. This stunning series reclaims and redefines the image of Black men, showcasing their strength, beauty, and essential place in our world. Through her lens, ninamdot captures the transformative power of crowning these subjects, highlighting their inherent royalty and challenging stereotypes. Each portrait is a testament to the beauty and necessity of the Black male.
The exhibition presents seven striking portraits of Black males, each meticulously captured and printed on 100% fine silk. This choice of fabric was intentional, symbolizing the high quality and strength of the subjects it depicts. The silk’s delicate yet resilient nature mirrors the essence of these individuals, elevating each portrait into a statement of pride and identity.
